Annapolis, Md. (December 2, 2017)--Brenden Chavis took home first place honors in the weight throw while Justin Kimble broke the school record in the 60m dash to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's indoor track and field team at the season-opening Navy Invitational on Saturday.
Chavis won the weight throw with a toss of 16.86m, nearly a half-meter ahead of Navy's Sean Brennan, who placed second. Kimble finished in second place in the 60m dash with a time of 6.84 seconds, just behind Coppin State's Joseph Amoah (6.80 seconds). Kimble's mark broke the Mount's 60m dash school record time of 6.88 seconds set by Chad Brown on December 4, 2010, at Navy.
D.J. Workcuff had a strong opening meet, finish second in the high jump (1.95m) and third in the long jump (7.23m). Workcuff's mark of 7.23m in the long jump is good for sixth all-time at Mount St. Mary's. Sean Fahey finished fifth in the triple jump while Zachary Delker was fourth in the shot put. Todd Sampson finished in seventh place in the 60m hurdles while the 4x400m relay team of Fahey, Brady Altland, Andrew Humm and Dhane Schmelyun finished in sixth place at the meet
