Emmitsburg, Md. (August 5, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's track and field coach Jim Stevenson has announced his incoming recruiting class. Chase Boyle (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills), Maria Borland (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown), Stephanie Borland (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown), Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson), Bria Harrison (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson), Natalia Hinton (Roselle, N.J./Newark Tech), Josh Poole (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), Maryanna Oberg (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City), Josh Testa (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro), Julian Woods (Sykesville, Md./Century) and Kelly Yanucil (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) will attend the Mount in the fall.
"We are excited to welcome such a distinctive group of student-athletes to the Mount this year and are confident they will all make an immediate impact in our program and the Northeast Conference," said Stevenson. "As a staff, we have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all the new additions and are looking forward to seeing them grow into leaders on our team and at our university."
Boyle, who competes in the throws, earned First Team All-County honors in the discus and was an honorable mention in the county last year. He finished third in the conference in the discus as a junior and fifth in the shot put. Boyle has career best marks of 50' 1" in the shot put and 140' 6" in the discus.
Stephanie Borland, Maria's twin sister, was named to the 2012 All-PSAC Cross Country team after finishing in seventh place at the PSAC Championships. She was also named to the All- Region squad. During track season, she finished in second in both the 800m run and the 1500m run at the PSAC Championships to earn All-Conference honors. She has personal best times of 58.66 in the 400, 2:12.47 in the 800, 4:36.99 in the 1,500 and 17:47.43 in the 5,000.
Harrison earned All-District honors in outdoor track as a senior in high school while winning the district title in the 55m dash in 2012. She was also part of the 4x100m relay team that earned all-state honors and a district title in 2011 while also capturing the 200m district title that year. Harrison has top marks of 12.04 in the 100m and 25.53 in the 200.
Poole, a sprinter, helped lead his school to the county championships in the 4x400m relay. He has a personal best time of 22.14 in the 200m dash and a mark of 49.28 in the 400m dash.
Testa was the Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2012 after finishing second in both the 500m and the 800m at the state indoor championships. He holds the school record in the indoor 800m while he finished in ninth place at the state cross country meet.
Woods was named the Maryland Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year his senior season. He helped lead his team to state championships, both indoors and outdoors. He won state titles in the 300m hurdles the past three years, while winning state titles in the 110 hurdles, the long jump, the 55 hurdles and the 4x200 relay in 2013. He finished in second place in the 400-meter hurdles at the prestigious Penn Relays, posting one of the top eight times in the nation. Woods has personal bests of 14.27 in the 110m hurdles, 52.45 in the 400m hurdles, 22' 8" in the long jump and 44' 6.25" in the triple jump.
Yanucil won the New Jersey sectional and group titles in the javelin and the discus her senior season. In addition, she finished fourth at the New Jersey Meet of Champions in the javelin. As a junior, she was a section champion in both the discus and the javelin while finishing in second place in the javelin in New Jersey Group 2 in 2012. She finished in sixth place in the javelin at the New Jersey Meet of Champions as well. Her personal bests are 141' 5" in the javelin and 117' 2" in the discus.
