Heather Juhring and Jon Fernandez Headed to NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Round

NCAA EAST PRELIMINARY WEBSITE

Emmitsburg, Md. (May 16, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's javelin throwers Jon Fernandez (Lakewood, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) and Heather Juhring (Logan Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) are headed to the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East preliminary round which is being hosted by North Carolina A&T University on May 23-25.

Fernandez qualified with a mark of 65.13m (213' 8") to earn All-East honors at the IC4A Championships this past Saturday.  This is the second time that Fernandez will be in the East Preliminary as he also qualified in 2010.  He is ranked 35th in the field of 48 competitors.

Jurhing, a sophomore, has now qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary in each of her first two seasons at the Mount.  She is ranked 42nd in the field of 48 competitors, and she qualified for the field with her school-record mark of 44.55m (146' 1") at the Penn Relays in April.

The men's javelin will be held on Friday, May 24, at 2:00 p.m. while the women's javelin will be on Saturday, May 25, at 2:00 p.m. 

The top 12 performers at the East preliminary earn a spot at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held in Eugene, Ore, June 5-8.
