Mount Track Headed to Penn Relays on Thursday

The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's track and field team heads to the Penn Relays this week.  The Mount will have four individuals and a pair of relay teams competing this week.

Elissa Ingram and Helena Leyrer will be the first Mountaineers in action, competing in the pole vault and 400m hurdles, respectively, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.  Ingram has the top mark in the Northeast Conference this season in the pole vault with her leap of 3.72m (12' 2.5") at the Colonial Relays.  Leyrer's time of 1:02.39 at the Wake Forest Open is the third-fastest in the NEC this year.

The women's 4x100m relay team of Genamarie McCant, Jessica Whitmore, Leyrer and Chantel Lipkins will be in preliminary heats at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.  The Mount's 4x100m relay team has a season-best time of 47.67 set earlier this year at the George Mason Spring Invitational.

Heather Juhring will be competing in the javelin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.  Juhring, last year's NEC champion, had her best mark of the year (44.43m, 145' 9") at the Wake Forest Open.

The women's 4x400m relay team, which consists of McCant, Leyrer, Desi Scott and Katie Crumbaugh, runs at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday.  The 4x400m squad had its best time of the year of 3:55.06 at the Colonial Relays.

The Mount's final competitor will be Jon Fernandez in the javelin on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.  Fernandez is fourth on the NEC's performance list this year with his throw of 63.94m (209' 9") at the Wake Forest Open.
