Heather Juhring Wins Javelin at Colonial Relays

Williamsburg, Va. (April 6, 2013)--Sophomore Heather Juhring won the javelin to pace the Mount St. Mary's men's and women's track and field teams at the Colonial Relays on Friday.

Juhring won the javelin with a toss of 44.31m to earn first-place honors after finishing second in the event at last year's Colonial Relays.

Freshman Elissa Ingram finished fourth in the pole vault (3.72m) while McKenzie Doyle placed fifth in the 10,000m run. 

Freshmen Jessica Whitmore and Helena Leyrer also had strong first day performances, qualifying for the finals in the 100m dash and the 100m hurdles, respectively.  Whitmore, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week, had the fifth-fastest qualifying time in the 100m dash at 12.12 seconds to earn a spot in the finals.  Leyrer had the sixth-fastest qualifying mark in the 100m hurdles at 14.68 seconds to earn her spot in the finals.

Other top performances included Ali Donahue (12th in hammer throw), Chantel Lipkins (9th in long jump), Megan Schott (11th in 5,000m run), Genamarie McCant (10th in 400m dash) and Leyrer (12th in the 400m hurdles).

On the men's side, Jon Fernandez finished seventh in the javelin (54.07m) and was 10th in the hammer throw.  Shane Holcomb added a ninth-place mark in the 5000m run as well.

The meet concludes on Saturday.
