The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are back in action on Saturday at the Maryland Invitational.
Mount Update: The Mount will be competing in its second meet of the outdoor season at Maryland. At Wake Forest, freshman Helena Leyrer was the top collegiate finisher in the 400m hurdles to pace the Mount. She finished the hurdles with a time of 1:02.39 to finish as the top collegiate runner in the field. Heather Juhring started the outdoor season with a solid second-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 44.43m. Chantel Lipkins posted a fifth place finish in the long jump (5.51m) while Genamarie McCant was 15th in the 200m dash with a time of 25.11 seconds. Jessica Whitmore finished fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.94 seconds. She had qualified for the finals in the 100m dash with the time of 12.10 seconds, the third-fastest time in the field of 77 runners in the preliminaries. Teammate Genamarie McCant had the 11th-best time in the preliminaries with a mark of 12.54, missing the finals by .08 seconds. Megan Kinsella placed sixth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:21.63.
The Competition: Teams expected to compete at Maryland included UMBC, Navy, Morgan State, Howard, George Washington, Bucknell and American.
Last Time at Maryland: The Mount last competed at the Maryland Invitational in 2011, with the men's team finishing second and the women's team in third place. Chad Brown won the 200m dash while Gigi Gibilisco took home first place in the 800m run. The men's 4x100m relay team of Quinton Huguley, Chris Brewington, Jason Kymingham and Brown finished in first as well. On the women's side, the 4x400m relay team of Ashlyn DeCruise, Lily Otu, Desi Scott and Ashley DeCruise finished in first while Ashley DeCruise won the 400m dash and Allison Vanek the pole vault.
