April 30, 2019--Mount St. Mary's sophomore pitcher Amanda Berkley has been named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week. It is the third time this season that Berkley has earned NEC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Berkley continued her hot streak in the circle this week, going 4-0 with a 1.46 ERA in 24.0 innings of work. She held the opposition to a .176 average while striking out 16 and appearing in all six of the Mount's games this week. She won both games in the Mount's doublheader sweep over CCSU on Saturday. In game one, she allowed one earned run while striking out seven in a complete-game victory. She came back in game two, allowing just one hit (a solo HR) in four innings of relief in the Mount's 2-1 victory. She posted a four-hitter in a five-inning complete game 9-1 win over RMU on Sunday. She is 6-0 with a 1.48 ERA over her past six appearances, and is now 14-13 with a 2.80 ERA on the season.
Berkley's three NEC Pitcher of the Week awards tie Nicole Pagano for the most in a single season by a Mount pitcher. Pagano was named NEC Pitcher of the Week three times during the 2014 season. She is also the first Mount pitcher to win NEC Pitcher of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks.
The Mount has concluded the 2019 regular season with a 25-26 overall record and a 9-7 mark in the Northeast Conference. The Mountaineers are awaiting the rest of the NEC regular season to conclude this week to see if they qualify for their first NEC Tournament since 2006. LIU Brooklyn leads the league with a 10-2 record, followed by Bryant (7-4), Sacred Heart (8-5), Saint Francis U (8-6), the Mount (9-7) and Robert Morris (5-7). The top four teams qualify for postseason play.
