April 23, 2019--Mount St. Mary's sophomore pitcher Amanda Berkley (Sherwood, Md.) has been named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week. Berkley picked up the win in both games of the Mount's doubleheader sweep of Bryant on April 19. This is the second time this season that Berkley has been named NEC Pitcher of the Week. She joins Nicole Pagano as the only Mount players to win more than one NEC Pitcher of the Week award in the same season since the school moved to the NEC in 1989.
In the Mount's 4-3 win in 10 innings in the opening game, she tossed six innings of one-hit relief with four strikeouts to pick up the victory. She allowed an unearned run (the player placed on second in the international tiebreaker) in the 10th inning. In game two, Berkley started and allowed two runs with one strikeout in three innings in the Mount's 6-2 rain-shortened five-inning win. Berkley went 2-0 with a 1.56 ERA in 9.0 innings, striking out five while holding Bryant to a .161 average in the doubleheader.
Berkley is 5-3 with a 2.58 ERA in Northeast Conference play this season with four complete games. Overall, she is 10-13 with a 3.09 ERA in 25 games (19 starts).
The Mount hosts Morgan State on Wednesday for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at Our Lady of the Meadows Field.
