Mount St. Mary's hosts a pair of Northeast Conference doubleheaders this weekend with Fairleigh Dickinson visiting Our Lady of the Meadows Field on Saturday and Saint Francis U on Sunday.

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount split a twinbill with visiting Cornell on Wednesday, falling in the opening game, 7-4, before earning a 9-1 win in six innings in the second game.  Cornell took advantage of six Mount St. Mary's errors to post a 7-4 win in the opening game of the doubleheader.  All seven of Cornell's runs were unearned in the contest.  Erin Sweeney went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs batted in to lead the Mount to a 9-1 win in six innings in game two.  Amanda Berkley got the win with a complete-game effort while Morgan Alisauckas finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the victory. 

ABOUT FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON:  Fairleigh Dickinson dropped both games of a doubleheader at Drexel on Thursday to fall to 8-23 on the season.  The Knights are 1-1 in Northeast Conference play, splitting a twinbill with Sacred Heart.  Madison Emerson leads the team with a .347 average while Rylie Schmeh is hitting .2980 with four doubles, four triples and nine RBI.  Abby England (3-3, 3.45 ERA), Erica Johnson (2-7, 3.50 ERA) and Baylee Ports (3-11, 3.80 ERA) lead the pitching staff.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES VS. FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON:  Mount St. Mary's holds a 19-15 all-time record against Fairleigh Dickinson in a series that began in 2001.  Last year, the Knights swept a doubleheader between the two teams, winning by the scores of 5-0 and 5-3.  The Knights have won seven of the past nine games in the all-time series.  The Mount is 9-7 all-time at home against FDU.

LAST MEETING VS. THE KNIGHTS:  Fairleigh Dickinson swept last year's doubleheader at the FDU Softball Field.  The Mount dropped the opening game, 5-0, before falling in game two, 5-3.  Fairleigh Dickinson scored three times in the bottom of the first inning to provide Baylee Ports all the offense she needed in a 5-0 win in the opening game.  Ports tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Knights to the win.  Mount St. Mary's saw Fairleigh Dickinson rally for a 5-3 win in the second game as the Knights completed the doubleheader sweep.  FDU scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win while Ports pitched the final two innings to earn the save.  For a full recap, click HERE.

ABOUT SAINT FRANCIS U:  Saint Francis U split a high-scoring doubleheader at Penn State on Wednesday to move to 15-21 on the season.  The Red Flash lost the opening game, 8-7, in eight innings, before coming back with a 17-13 victory in the nightcap.  Last weekend, the Red Flash opened NEC play by splitting a twinbill at Bryant before winning both games at Central Connecticut.  The Red Flash feature a high-flying offense, averaging 6.1 runs per game.  Haley Norton leads the prolific offense with a .390 average, 10 home runs and 41 RBI.  Sierra McKee is hitting .352 with eight homers and 40 RBI while MeKenzie Saban has a .349 average with 43 runs scored.  Meadow Uncapher (5-5, 4.93 ERA) and Christina Clark (6-6, 5.77 ERA) lead the pitching staff.  Saint Francis hosts Robert Morris on Saturday before heading to the Mount for Sunday's doubleheader.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SAINT FRANCIS U:  Saint Francis U has won the past 13 meetings between the two teams to take a 56-23 lead in the all-time series.  The Mountaineers are 13-24 all-time at home against the Red Flash.  Last year, the Mount lost by the scores of 10-8 and 8-0 at Saint Francis.  The Mount's last win over the Red Flash was a 5-2 victory on April 14, 2013, at home.

LAST MEETING VS. THE RED FLASH:  Mount St. Mary's opened Northeast Conference play with a pair of losses at Saint Francis U last season.  The Mount lost the opening game, 10-0, in five innings, before being downed, 8-0, in five innings in game two.  In the first game, Saint Francis scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead.  Madison Cabell's solo home run in the third gave the Red Flash a 3-0 advantage, and a seven-run fifth inning sealed the victory.  In game two, the Red Flash scored twice in the first and three times in both the third and fourth innings to secure the win. Click HERE for a full recap.

HOLCOMB LEADS NEC IN HITTING:  Junior Shelbee Holcomb has been on fire at the plate for the Mountaineers.  Holcomb is hitting a sizzling .654 (17-for-26) over the past eight games to move her average to a league-best .470 on the year.  Holcomb went 9-for-12 (.750) in the Mount's four NEC games, reaching base in 12 of her 15 plate appearances (.800 OBP).  For the year, she is 39-for-83 (.470) at the plate with seven doubles and 15 RBI in 30 games played.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING:  Lindsay Heinze has reached base in each of the last 18 games…Katie Olson has a 1.30 ERA over her past 10 appearances (27.0 IP)…Shelbee Holcomb is hitting .517 (30-for-58) over the past 18 games…Kaia Bonshock is hitting .483 over the past 10 games…The Mount is hitting .356 while averaging 7.9 runs per game in eight home games this season.

LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD:  The Mountaineers scored a season-high 22 runs in the Mount's 22-4 win over Coppin State in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.  The 22 runs are the most by a Mount during head coach Anna Nagro's tenure, and the most by a Mount team since a 30-0 victory over Coppin State on March 27, 2008  The Mount pounded out 19 hits in the game, with 12 different players recording at least one hit in the contest.

HEINZE AND ALISAUCKAS MOVING UP HOME RUN CHART:  Senior Lindsay Heinze and graduate student Morgan Alisauckas continue to move up the Mount's career home run chart.  Heinze has a team-high eight home runs this year, giving her 24 for her career.  She has moved into third place on the Mount's all-time home run list behind cousin Rachel Heinze (43, 2014-17) and Liz Christiansen (25, 2009-13).  Alisauckas has three home runs this year, giving her 20 for her career, which is good for fourth all-time at the Mount.

HEINZE MOVING IN ON CAREER RBI RECORD:  Lindsay Heinze is closing in on the Mount's career record for runs batted in.  Heinze has 23 RBI this season, moving her to 118 RBI in her career.  She is second on the all-time list behind cousin Rachel Heinze, who had 121 RBI from 2014-17.

HEINZE BREAKS CAREER DOUBLES RECORD:  Senior Lindsay Heinze hit a pair of doubles in the Mount's 11-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on March 13 to break the Mount's all-time record for two-base hits.  Heinze now has 41 career doubles, topping the mark of 39 that was set by Amanda Burk (2006-09).

PRESEASON POLL:  The Mount was tabbed to finish in seventh in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.  Sacred Heart was the unanimous pick to win it all, followed by LIU Brooklyn, Saint Francis U, Central Connecticut, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, the Mount, Wagner and Robert Morris.  The Mount finished tied for sixth in the NEC standings last year with a 7-9 league record.

HEAD COACH ANNA NAGRO:  Nagro is in her ninth season at the helm of the Mount softball program, the longest tenure by a head coach in the history of the program.  Nagro has led the Mount to 37 wins over the past two seasons, including 20 in 2017, the most by a Mount team since the 2010 campaign.
