Statesboro, Ga. (February 17, 2019)--The Mount St. Mary's softball team closed out the Eagle Round Robin with a 6-1 loss to host Georgia Southern on Sunday. Freshman Kaia Bonshock provided the Mount's offense with an RBI single in the third inning.
Georgia Southern (9-4) took advantage of three walks and a hit batsmen to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Mount (1-4) cut the deficit in half in the top of the third when Kaylee Stoner reached on an infield single, Lindsay Heinze was hit by a pitch, and Bonshock came through with an RBI single up the middle. The Eagles answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to push the lead to 5-1. Allyssah Mullis provided the big hit in the inning, a two-run double with the bases loaded. Faith Shirley's RBI single in the fourth completed the scoring.
Bonshock went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Mountaineers in the game. Jordan Weaver took the loss, walking the only batter she faced. Katie Olson allowed four runs in two innings of work while Avery Neuhart pitched the final four innings, allowing one run.
The Mount is back in action on Saturday, February 23, with a pair of games at the Pirate-Spartan Classic. The Mount will face St. Bonaventure at 10:00 a.m. and Hampton at 2:30 p.m. at Hampton.
