Mount Softball Drops Pair at Saint Francis U in Northeast Conference Opener

March 31, 2018--Mount St. Mary's opened Northeast Conference play with a pair of losses at defending champion Saint Francis U on Saturday.  The Mount lost the opening game, 10-0, in five innings, before being downed, 8-0, in five innings in game two.

In the first game, Saint Francis (18-15, 2-0 NEC) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead.  Madison Cabell's solo home run in the third gave the Red Flash a 3-0 advantage, and a seven-run fifth inning sealed the victory.

Jordan Weaver started for the Mount, allowing five runs in four innings of work.  Kate Wade had the Mount's lone hit in the opener.

In game two, the Red Flash scored twice in the first and three times in both the third and fourth innings to secure the win. 

Lindsay Heinze, Marian Ruf, Kaylee Stoner and Kirsten Mumma each had a hit for the Mount in the loss.  Amanda Berkley started, allowing five runs in two-plus innings.  Weaver closed out the game, allowing three runs in two innings of work.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Tuesday, April 3, when Cornell visits Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
