Mount Softball Posts Wins Over Colgate and Brown on Sunday to Move to 3-5 on the Season

Deland, Fla. (February 25, 2018)—The Mount St. Mary's softball team won a pair of games on the final day of the Stetson Mad Hatter Invitational today.  The Mount defeated Colgate, 9-2, in the first game of the day before earning a 6-3 win over Brown in game two.  The Mount won three of four games at the tournament to improve to 3-5 on the season.

The Mount jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the 6-3 win over Brown.  Stoner started the game with a double, Kirsten Mumma singled, and Morgan Alisauckas walked to load the bases.  Lindsay Heinze was hit by a pitch to force home Stoner for the first run, and a wild pitch allowed Mumma to score put the Mount up 2-0.  Emilee Kirk then drove home two runs on a sacrifice fly to give the Mount a 4-0 lead.

In the second, Mumma reached on an error, stole second, and scored when Alisauckas reached on an error to make it 5-0.  Caeley Etter's bases loaded walk in the fourth pushed the lead to 6-0. Brown scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and two more on a Cat Seitz double in the sixth make the final score of 6-3.

Jordan Weaver earned her second complete-game win of the tournament, allowing three runs with three strikeouts in the game.

Mount St. Mary's 9, Colgate 2

Katie Olson pitched a complete game while Lindsay Heinze went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles to lead the Mount past Colgate, 9-2, on Sunday morning.

The Mount jumped on top with single runs in both the third and fourth innings.  In the third, Erin Sweeney doubled, moved to third on a Lexi Donovan sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Kaylee Stoner sacrifice fly.

In the fourth, Heinze doubled, and pinch runner Devon Hutchins moved to third on an Emilee Kirk base hit.  Hutchins then stole home on a double steal to put the Mount up 2-0.

The Mountaineers broke the game open with five runs in the fifth inning.  Donovan reached second base on an error to open the frame, and then scored on a Stoner base hit.  Stoner stole third, and Kirsten Mumma reached first on an error to put runners at the corners.  Morgan Alisauckas followed with a single to score Stoner to make it 4-0. Heinze added an RBI double and Kirk an RBI bunt single to put the Mount ahead, 7-0.

Colgate responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Heinze had an RBI single and Jessica Nines walked with the bases loaded to close out the scoring.

Heinze went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, Alisauckas was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Stoner 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the offense.  Olson held Colgate to a pair of unearned runs and just three hits in the complete-game victory.

The Mount is back in action on Tuesday, February 26, with a single game at Stetson at 6:00 p.m.
