The Mount softball team returns to action this weekend at the Stetson Mad Hatter Invitational. The Mount will play Colgate, Brown and Stetson at the tournament.
MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount went 0-4 at the Elon Softball Tournament to open the 2018 season. Morgan Alisauckas (.455, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI) and Kaylee Stoner (.357, 1 3B, 1 HR) led the Mount offense while Amanda Berkley went 0-2 with a 5.48 ERA in a pair of starts to pace the pitching staff.
ABOUT BROWN: The Bears will be making their season debut after posting a 16-29 overall record and a 6-14 mark in the Ivy League last year.
ABOUT COLGATE: Colgate is 0-5 this season after falling to Furman twice, USC Upstate twice and East Tennessee State. Virginia Irby and Baillie Jorth each hit .286 at the tournament while Holly Geranen hit Colgate's lone home run. Kyle Griswold appeared in four games, going 0-2 with a 5.91 ERA while Bella Crow made four stats, going 0-3 with a 9.60 ERA.
ABOUT STETSON: Stetson enters the tournament with a 2-7 record this season. Ashly Smith paces the offense with a .483 average and five RBI while Kasey Fava is hitting .409. Tori Perkins is 1-4 with a 2.39 ERA in five games (four starts) while Jaime Tino is 1-2 with a 3.29 ERA in four starts.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. BROWN: The Mount is 0-3 all-time against Brown. The Bears swept a twinbill (2-1, 13-2) at the Mount on March 29, 2016 while posting a 5-4 win on March 18, 2012 in the first meeting.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. COLGATE: This will be the Mount's first matchup with Colgate since 2006. The Mount is 1-2 all-time against the Red Raiders, taking a 6-0 win on March 25, 2006, in the last meeting. Colgate won a pair of games against the Mount in 2004.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. STETSON: The Mountaineers are 1-5 all-time against Stetson in the series that began in 2007. Last year, Stetson posted a 5-4 victory over the Mount on March 8. The Mount's win in the series was a 1-0 decision on Feb. 24, 2012.
PRESEASON PICKS: Mount St. Mary's was picked to finish in eighth place in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Defending champion Saint Francis U was the unanimous pick to finish in first place.
UP NEXT: The Mount will play at Stetson for one game on Feb. 27 and at Savannah State for a twinbill on Feb. 28 before heading to the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic hosted by Furman and USC Upstate on March 2-4.
