The Mount St. Mary's women's team sits at 5-2 in dual meets on the year despite falling to La Salle, 125-87, in the most recent competition. At the meet, Jordan Friedman claimed victory in the 100 free (1:02.47), and Lauren Gullickson took the top spot in the 100 breast (1:17.63) for the team's top individual finishes of the day. Alyssa Felos (1:18.65) and Meghan McCarthy (1:29.15) finished second and third in the 100 breast, as the Mount claimed the top-three spots in the event. The Mountaineers also registered a first-place finish in the 400 free relay as the squad of Valeria Villagran, Juliet Whitman, Maggie deTar and Eliza Felos combined for a time of 4:14.01.
On the men's side, the Mountaineers broke four school records in Saturday's meet with La Salle, but fell to the Explorers by a 134-73 margin. John Wilson was responsible for setting a pair of new records in the 100 breast and 200 IM. The sophomore won the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.69, eclipsing his own school record of 1:06.65 set earlier this season. Wilson also set a new mark in the 200 IM (2:12.42), besting out Will Twizell's previous record of 2:13.56. In the 50 free, Peter Jones raced to a time of 24.26 to take second place and break his own record of 24.68, which was set earlier this season. The final school record to fall on Saturday came in the 400 medley relay. The squad of Ryan Griffiths, Twizell, Ryan Carroll and Andrew Jones clocked in at 3:57.72 to beat out the previous record by nearly two seconds. The time was good for a second-place finish in the event.
The women's team heads to the Northeast Conference Championships spanning February 13-16 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York. The Mountaineer men will be in postseason competition at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships on February 20-23 at the Liberty Natatorium on the campus of Liberty University.
