Mount Swimming & Diving Teams Host First Home Meet this Weekend

The Mount St. Mary's women's team returns to action for the first time since October 21, when they competed at the NJIT Invitational. At the meet, the Mountaineers won two-of-three as they defeated Saint Peter's (163-52) and Manhattan (129-102), while falling to LIU Brooklyn (151-69). The Mountaineers collected nine top-three finishes in individual events on the day, led by a pair of second-place showings from Mary Lombardi. The senior posted times of 5:22.09 in the 500 free and 10:56.32 in the 1000 free to take second place in both events. Maddie McGraw registered a time of 58.57 in the 100 back, and Alyssa Felos clocked in at 1:10.26 in the 100 breast for the Mount's other second-place finishes on the day. Rookie Jordan Friedman continued her strong start to her freshman season, recording third-place showings in the 200 IM (2:17.04) and the 100 free (56.09). Valeria Villagran notched the Mount's other top-three finish in the swimming portion of the meet, placing third in 100 fly (1:01.18). In the 1-meter diving event, Laura Kingham collected the Mount's top score with a 155.75 to take second place. Laci Vickery (140.25) and Catherine Davis (123.25) finished third and fourth, respectively.

The men's team wrapped up action at the All-American Celebration Meet hosted by Liberty University this past weekend. During the opening day of the meet on Friday, Mount St. Mary's posted seven top-10 finishes in individual events, led by a pair from Will Twizell. The junior raced to seventh-place showings in both the 200 IM (1:58.18) and 100 breast (58.99) to continue his strong start to the season. In the 100 back, Ryan Griffiths tied for seventh with a time of 54.31, while Jonathan Mata took ninth in the event in 55.11. The Mount also had two swimmers place top-10 in the 100 fly, with Ryan Carroll finishing ninth (53.42), and Thomas de Xavier posting a 10th-place showing (54.08). Peter Jones notched the Mount's other top performance of the day, touching the wall in 22.33 in the 50 free to take 10th place. On Saturday, the Mountaineers posted six top-10 finishes in individual events to close things out. Nicholas Starvaggi notched a time of 10:42.74 in the 500 free, and Griffiths clocked in at 1:58.15 in the 200 back, as both swimmers registered sixth-place showings for the Mount's top finishes of the day. Cudahy and Twizell both earned eighth-place finishes on the final day. Cudahy registered a time of 49.22 in the 100 free, and Twizell touched the wall in 2:12.69 in the 200 breast. The Mountaineers placed two simmers in the top-10 in the 200 fly, led by a ninth-place showing from Carroll in 2:03.58. Austin Dodd finished just behind Carroll with a time of 2:04.63 to take 10th place.

The Mount women's squad owns a perfect 9-0 record all-time against Howard, including a 117-106 victory last season. The Mountaineers faced Monmouth for the first time ever last year, and posted a 146-116 win.

On the men's side, the Mount is looking for its first win vs. Howard. In the meet last season, the Bison registered a 123-91 in their home pool. The Mountaineers defeated Monmouth last season, 134-128, in the only matchup between the two teams.

The men's and women's teams head to the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on November 16-18 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
