Emmitsburg, Md. (October 15, 2019)-- Freshman forward Kyle Davis tallied his first two collegiate goals as the Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team defeated American 4-1 on Tuesday night at Waldron Family Stadium. The Mount extended its win streak to two games and three of their last four, improving to 6-5 on the season.
Sophomore Yann Kouemi was the first Mountaineer to crack the scoreboard after Jonathan Fawole drew a foul in the box to force a penalty. Kouemi planted the kick in the left hand side of the net for his team high seventh goal of the year. Six minutes later, freshman Juan Molina came off the bench and extend the lead to 2-0, with an assist from Marcel Trotman.
Davis earned both of his goals in the second half. The first came just five minutes in - a strike from the right side with the right foot, thanks to a set up from Ramon Gallegos and Miguel Lucero. His second can be credited to deceiving tactics, as he caught the Eagles off guard on a free kick at the edge of the box.
Keeper Riccardo Zonta worked hard to earn the win while trying to maintain a clean sheet. With the win a foregone conclusion, the clean sheet was thwarted by a goal in the 82nd minute from American's Bobby Beringer. Zonta collected five saves to pick up his third victory.
The four goals for The Mount matches a season high, last earned in the opener September 1st versus Winthrop.
Three matches on the road await Mount St. Mary's in the coming week. They travel to Sacred Heart on Friday (Oct. 18), followed by Bryant on October 25th and Merrimack on October 27th.
