Somerset, N.J. (April 29, 2019) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse goalie Dylan Furnback has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Furnback was pivotal in the Mountaineers' 7-6 victory over Saint Joseph's on Saturday, helping them secure the NEC Regular Season Title and home field in the NEC Tournament. Furnback racked up a career-high 20 saves to record his 10th double-digit save effort of the season. The sophomore net minder stopped eight shots in the fourth quarter, including multiple key saves in the waning minutes. With just 25 seconds left in the game, Shane Fable made a bid for his third goal of the game, but Furnback came up big once against and turned away the shot to give the Mount possession. After a timeout, the Mountaineers were able to run out the remaining seconds to come away with the 7-6 win.
Mount St. Mary's hosts Robert Morris in an NEC Semifinal matchup on Thursday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium.
