Men’s Lacrosse Announces Erik Holt and Jon Paige as Assistant Coaches

Emmitsburg, Md. (January 23, 2019) – The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team has announced the additions of Erik Holt and Jon Paige as assistant coaches for the 2019 season.

Holt, who served as the director of lacrosse operations at the Mount from 2011-12, will return to the program as the defensive coordinator under Head Coach Tom Gravante. Holt worked primarily with the face-off specialists during his time with the Mountaineers, and helped guide the squad to a 2011 Northeast Conference Championship.

Holt spent the last three seasons at Saint James School in Hagerstown, Maryland. As head coach in 2018, he led the Saints to a 10-win season as they reached the Mid-Atlantic Conference Semifinals. Through recruitment and player development, Holt helped build Saint James to an annual contender during his tenure.

Holt has also worked with the U-19 US Indoor Lacrosse Team as an assistant coach and vice president of operations. He entered the coaching realm as an assistant at Urbana High School in 2006, and helped lead the team to three Maryland State Championships and a Final Four appearance.

Holt, a former lacrosse and football player at Penn State, went on to play professional lacrosse for the Charlotte Copperheads and Philadelphia Wings. He was a member of the US Indoor Development Team from 2009-13, and represented Team USA's Indoor squad at the BowHunter Cup in 2013.

Holt earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Penn State in 2002.

"Erik brings the experience and discipline of playing Big 10 lacrosse and football at Penn State University. As the defensive coordinator, he will guide our players with high energy and toughness to be a force of one," said Head Coach Tom Gravante.

Paige comes to the Mount following a stint on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Queens University of Charlotte. During the 2018 campaign, Paige worked closely with face-off specialist Drew Flack, who finished 17th in NCAA Division II with a .604 face-off win percentage. As a team, Queens placed 13th in the nation in face-off percentage.

In addition to his experience at Queens, Paige also worked as the offensive coordinator and skills position coach with Team 91 Lacrosse Club in Baltimore.

During his playing days at Queens, Paige earned SAC All-Conference honors and All-Tournament Team recognition three times each. In 2017, he was named a USILA Division II Honorable Mention All-American and was selected to play in the USILA North-South Game. Paige went on to play professionally for the Florida Launch of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) in 2018, and is a current member of the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Paige graduated from Queens University of Charlotte with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 2018.

"Jon brings professional playing experience, having time with the Florida Launch and Chesapeake Bayhawks. His experience and knowledge has already assisted our players in raising their efforts and commitment for a successful season," said Gravante.

The Mountaineers open the 2019 campaign on February 9 at home against Delaware.
