Smithfield, R.I. (March 17, 2018) – Mount St. Mary's University men's lacrosse dropped its conference opener at Bryant by a 20-11 margin on Saturday afternoon.
Marc O'Rourke registered eight points (6g, 2a) for the Bulldogs to lead all scorers in the game, and Jake Buonaiuto and Cam Ziegler tallied four points (3g, 1a) each.
Kevin Beimfohr collected the win in the Bryant cage with a 12-save effort.
Bryant held the Mount off the board for the opening 14-plus minutes of the opening quarter while building a 5-0 lead in the process. McCarthy was able to net the Mount's first goal of the game with just 32 seconds remaining in the period to cut the deficit to four heading into the second.
The Bulldogs went up 7-1 following the first two goals of the second quarter before Rich Holle and DiPretoro scored back-to-back goals to cut the Bryant lead back to four. The Bulldogs answered with two of the final three goals of the half to extend the advantage to 9-4 at the intermission.
Mount St. Mary's trailed by four goals early in the third before Bryant rallied for five straight, including a pair from O'Rourke, to take a commanding 15-6 lead late in the frame.
The Mountaineers tallied the final two goals of the third and the opening score of the fourth to cut the deficit to 15-9, but weren't able to pull any closer the rest of the way as Bryant came away with the 20-11 victory.
With the win, Bryant improved to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Mount dropped to 3-5 on the year and 0-1 in the NEC.
The Mount returns to Emmitsburg to take on Robert Morris on March 24 at noon.
