Men’s Lacrosse Announces Recent Additions to Coaching Staff

Emmitsburg, Md. (February 1, 2017) --The Mount St. Mary's University men's lacrosse program has announced the recent additions of Assistant Coach Scott Meehan and Volunteer Assistant Coach Joe Wilson to round out the staff for the 2017 season.

"I am very glad to have Scott Meehan and Joe Wilson join our 2017 men's lacrosse staff," said Head Coach Tom Gravante. "Both coaches bring a strong background to our program to assist, direct and develop our players into better student-athletes and people."

Meehan joins the Mount after spending last season as an assistant coach at Richmond, where he was responsible for the face-off and wing play units. Meehan helped guide the Spiders to an 11-5 overall record and 6-1 conference mark as they earned their highest ranking in program history at No. 18 following a win over ninth-ranked Duke. During his time at Richmond, Meehan coached and mentored seven All-SoCon selections, and helped guide Peter Moran to the 23rd-best face-off winning percentage in the country.

Prior to his time at Richmond, Meehan spent three seasons at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., where he coached the goalies and transition game while also serving as offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator. The Diplomats made the Centennial Conference Championship in each of Meehan's final two seasons, which were the program's only two championship appearances in school history.

As a player, Meehan was a four-year letterwinner at Washington and Lee, where he led the team to an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship in 2009. Meehan served as a team captain in 2012 and was also named Team MVP that season after collecting ODAC All-Conference and All-Tournament honors.

Meehan graduated from Washington and Lee University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in economics.

Wilson comes to the Mount following a three-year stint as head coach at St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, N.C., where he guided the Knights to 28 wins and a 13-2 conference record while making playoff appearances all three years, including a pair of semifinal berths and one finals appearance. Wilson led the team to its first-ever bid to the NAIA National Tournament and first-ever conference regular season championship in his final year in 2016. During his three seasons at St. Andrews, Wilson coached and mentored three All-Americans, 12 All-Conference selections and six All-Tournament Team members. Wilson also served on the NAIA men's lacrosse executive board to assist in furthering the sport in the conference.

Before taking over the helm at St. Andrews, Wilson served as an assistant coach at King's College for the 2013 season, helping guide the team to a 10-4 season and a MAC Freedom Conference Championship appearance. In 2012, Wilson was the offensive coordinator for Western Reserve Academy (Ohio), helping lead the team to a 12-win season. Prior to that, Wilson helped build a young program as an assistant coach at Sewanee in Tennessee.

Wilson graduated from The University of Tennessee in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in communication, and is currently working on his master's in college athletic administration from Coker College.

The Mount opens its 2017 campaign on February 11 against Delaware at 12 p.m. in Emmitsburg. Action from Waldron Family Stadium will be streamed for free at
