Emmitsburg, Md. (December 7, 2016)—Graduate students Bubba Johnson and Tommy Lyons along with seniors Kevin Verkler and Mike Pascali have been named captains for the Mount St. Mary's University men's lacrosse team for the 2017 season. Head coach Tom Gravante made the announcement.
Johnson was a First Team All-Northeast Conference selection in the midfield last year after tallying 16 goals and nine assists for 25 points. He posted a hat trick in the Mount's 14-11 win over Delaware in the season opener, and added three goals against UMBC. Johnson notched his third hat trick of the year in the Mount's win at Sacred Heart.
Lyons appeared in all 14 games for the Mountaineers last season, finishing with 21 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. He scored a goal in the season-opening win at Delaware, and picked up a season-high four ground balls against Georgetown.
Pascali played in all 14 games last season, finishing with two goals and two assists. He added 15 ground balls and eight caused turnovers on the year. Pascali had a pair of assists in the Mount's win over Wagner and had three ground balls and two caused turnovers against Sacred Heart. He scored in back-to-back games against VMI and Robert Morris.
Verkler played in 13 games with 12 starts for the Mount on defense last year. He scored his first collegiate goal in a win over Wagner and finished the season with 10 caused turnovers and 11 ground balls.
Mount St. Mary's opens the 2017 season at home against Delaware on Saturday, February 11, at 12:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium.
