Akron, Ohio (October 1, 2018) -- The Mount St. Mary's men's golf team wrapped up the opening day of the Firestone Invitational in 17th place on the team leaderboard with a score of 626. The Mount shot an opening round of 308 as a team, before following with a 318 on the final 18 on Monday.
Michael Robinson and Nacho Gomez paced the Mountaineers with scores of 155 and 156, respectively, through the opening two rounds. Robinson posted a 77 during his first round, and fired a 78 on the final 18 to secure the top spot among Mountaineers in the individual standings. Gomez registered a 73 to open things up, which was tied for the best round by a Mount player this season, and finished out with an 83 in his final round on Monday.
Nick McCann and Pablo Alonso finished the day next up on the leaderboard for the Mount, posting rounds of 160 and 161, respectively. The duo each posted scores of 79 to begin the tournament, while McCann followed with an 81 in round two, and Alonso shot an 82.
Rounding out the scoring for the Mount was Jack Snyder with a 166. The rookie shot an 89 in the opening round, before rebounding with a 77 to close out the day
The final 18 holes of the tournament from Firestone Country Club begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
