Mount St. Mary's Knocked Off by St. Francis (N.Y.), 79-60

New York, N.Y. (January 21, 2012)—Mount St. Mary's lost at St. Francis (N.Y.), 79-60, on Saturday afternoon at the Pope Physical Education Center. Sophomore Julian Norfleet paced four Mountaineers in double figures with 14 points in the game.

Freshman Xavier Owens added a career high 11 points while Josh Castellanos and Chad Holley chipped in 10 each in the loss.

Stefan Perunicic led the Terriers (9-10, 6-2 NEC) with a game-high 21 points while Brent Jones added 11 points.  Jalen Cannon had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds with P.J. Santavenere adding 11 for St. Francis (N.Y.).

The Terriers broke the game open with an early run in the first half to take control.  After a Norfleet fastbreak basket tied the score at 4-4, the Terriers outscored the Mount 31-13 to take a 35-17 lead at the break.  Perunicic scored 13 points in the half, hitting 5-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range.

The Mount (4-15, 2-6 NEC) shot 29.2 percent from the field (7-of-24) and had nine turnovers in the first half.  St. Francis (N.Y.) shot 51.9 percent (14-of-27) in the half, including 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from downtown.

The Terriers were able to maintain a double-digit lead throughout the second half.

For the game, the Mount shot 42.9 percent overall and was 16-for-29 (.552) at the foul line.  St. Francis (N.Y.) shot 55.3 percent overall and 56.3 percent from beyond the arc in the victory.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Thursday, January 26, with a 7:00 p.m. game at Quinnipiac.

Game Notes:  The all-time series is now tied at 28-28…The Terriers have won five of the past matchups between the two schools.
