ABCA RELEASE

June 13, 2019 -- Mount St. Mary's University sophomore outfielder Myles Nicholson and senior shortstop Patrick Causa were recognized with American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division I All-Region honors on Wednesday. Nicholson earned a spot on the East All-Region First Team, while Causa collected Second Team honors.

Nicholson had a tremendous sophomore season, hitting .365 with 10 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 44 runs scored, 23 RBI and 37 stolen bases, as he became the first Mount player to earn First Team All-Northeast Conference (NEC) honors in the outfield since Shane Eyler in 2009. Nicholson broke the Mount's single-season record with his 37 stolen bases, surpassing the old mark of 32 set by Jay Knight in 2013. His 66 hits on the year are the fifth-best single-season mark at the Mount in the Division I era. Nicholson had 12 games with two or more steals this season, and added a pair of four-hit games.

Causa had one of the best seasons in Mount history as he became the second Mountaineer ever to win the NEC Player of the Year Award. The senior hit .402 with 12 doubles, 12 home runs, 49 runs scored and 39 RBI while posting a .710 slugging percentage and a .521 on-base percentage in 47 games played. He is the first Mount player to hit over .400 since the school moved to NCAA Division I in 1988-89. His 49 runs scored tied the Mount's single-season record while his .521 on-base percentage and 39 walks are new single-season marks at the Mount.  Causa had 21 multiple-hit games on the year, and he rounded out his career with 211 hits, the third-best mark in program history. Causa's 45 career doubles are second all-time at the Mount.
