Somerset, N.J. (April 30, 2019) – Senior Patrick Causa was named NEC Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, as announced by the league office.
Causa slugged 1.125 while continuing his climb up Mount St. Mary's all-time hits list last week. The senior shortstop recorded nine hits over the four-game stretch, moving up to third place in Mount history with 199 career base knocks. Causa, who connected on five extra-base hits, batted .563 (9-for-16) with five RBI and five runs scored. The Keystone State product produced three multi-hit performances in four appearances, including a pair of three-hit efforts against NEC rival Central Connecticut. He logged extra-base hits in all four contests, highlighted by a two long balls in the middle game against CCSU. After being hit by a pitch in two earlier plate appearances, Causa doubled in the sixth inning of the series opener with the score tied 8-8. The 5-foot-10 shortstop opened the scoring in Game 2, blasting a solo shot over the left-centerfield fence with two out in the bottom of the first frame. Causa connected on a RBI single next time up, tying the game at 2-2 in the third. Stepping to the plate in the eighth inning of a 6-6 game, Causa unloaded a two-run bomb to right-centerfield. He accounted for three of the Mount's seven hits in the series finale, including a two-bagger with Mount facing a 1-0 deficit in the sixth. In a 16-7 mid-week win over Patriot League member Bucknell, Causa reached safely three times and scored three runs.
Causa and the rest of the Mount baseball team travel to George Mason tomorrow, May 1 for a mid-week game at 3 PM.
