Emmitsburg, Md. (April 23, 2019) - The Mount St. Mary's baseball team topped Bucknell 16-7 in mid-week non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium. Freshman Ryan Fisher led the Mount after he tabbed a 3-for-5 game with four RBI, two doubles, and two runs scored in the nine spot.
10 Mountaineers tabbed at least one RBI on the day that helped overpower Bucknell in the win. Patrick Causa and Thomas Savastio each added multi-hit games for Mount St. Mary's while they combined for six runs scored, three runs batted in, and a double. Thomas Bramley tallied another solid game with two runs scored, two RBI, two walks, and one stolen base. Trevor Leamer hit a big pinch hit double that drove in an insurance run for the Mount while Ben Daniels picked up his first career hit and first career run batted in. Ryan Florio, Noah Kirkland, Cole Reeder, Brenden Kennedy, Sean Flynn, and Dennis Snyder combined to pitch 5.1 scoreless frames for Mount St. Mary's in relief appearances while they only allowed four hits and struck out four batters in the win.
The Mount (13-26) grabbed a 10-2 lead after just three innings of play and shut Bucknell (10-32) down after the fifth inning. The Bisons climbed back into the game after they pushed five runs a crossed the board in the fifth to make it a 10-7 game but the Mountaineers added six insurance runs to take control of the ballgame.
In the bottom of the first after Myles Nicholson and Patrick Causa were hit by a pitch, Thomas Savastio hit a RBI single to right field that brought Nicholson home to cross the plate for the first run of the game for Mount St. Mary's. Pat Daly forced a walk to load the bases in the next at bat. With the bases loaded, Alex Kriss reached on a RBI fielder's choice that scored Causa, Thomas Bramley worked a RBI walk that plated Savastio, and Bryant Shives hit a RBI sacrifice fly out to right field that scored Daly. The next batter, Ryan Fisher, cleared the bases with a two RBI double to left center that brought in Kriss and Bramley to score.
Owen Wosleger recorded a RBI single, Ryan Fisher tabbed a RBI double, Patrick Causa hit a RBI double, and Myles Nicholson flew around the bases for a RBI triple for the Mountaineers four runs in the bottom of the third inning that made it a 10-2 game.
The six insurance runs for the Mount came in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. Trevor Leamer scorched a RBI double to right center in the sixth. With the bases loaded this time in the sixth, Bryant Shives forced a RBI walk, and Ryan Fisher picked up a RBI groundout to the second baseman. With the bases loaded in bottom half of the seventh inning, Ben Daniels beat out a RBI single to the second baseman, and the next batter Thomas Bramley hit a RBI sacrifice fly to right field. Mount St. Mary's last run of the game came off of a RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Thomas Savastio that plated Fisher.
Bucknell's runs were plated off a sacrifice fly from JohnPaul Bell in the first inning, another sacrifice fly this time by Tyler Wincig in the third, a Luke Hartman RBI single in the fourth, a three run homer from Dom Toso in the fourth, and a RBI single from Alex Baumman in the fourth.
Luke Hartman and Dom Toso led the Bisons with three hit days each. Toso recorded three RBI, two runs scored, two doubles, and a home run in the loss.
Cole Reeder (2-0) earned the win for the Mount and Nicholas Sadd (2-2) picked up the loss after he allowed six earned runs and 10 runs total.
The Mountaineers host Central Connecticut State for a big three game Northeast Conference series on April 26-28 with the first game on Friday, April 26 at 3 PM.
