Somerset, N.J. (April 2, 2018) -- Mount St. Mary's University pitcher Trey McGough has been named Northeast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
McGough kept the NEC's top-ranked hitting attack at bay, leading Mount St. Mary's to a series-opening victory over Bryant. The second-year Mountaineer went the distance, allowing only one run over 9.0 innings. Pitching to an 0.89 WHIP in the 6-1 win, he fanned eight batters and permitted only one extra-base hit. McGough held Bryant, which entered the game with a conference-best .285 team batting average, hitless for the first 4.1 frames and he did not allow a run until the ninth. An one-out single broke up his no-hit bid in the fifth, but the sophomore southpaw responded by retiring the next two batters to end the frame. McGough surrendered a two-out double in the sixth inning, but an ensuing groundout ended the threat. One out away from the complete-game shutout, McGough gave up a run-scoring single before ending the game with a strikeout.
McGough and the Mount travel to Coppin State for a mid-week matchup on Wednesday, April 4 at 3 p.m.
