Davidson, N.C. (March 18, 2018) - The Mount baseball team was downed 18-7 by Davidson in the three game series finale on Sunday afternoon. Alex Kriss, Patrick Causa, Vaughn Parker II, and Andrew Malone each recorded a multi-hit game in the loss for the Mountaineers. Parker was 2 for 5 with a single, a homerun, and four runs batted in to lead the Mount offense. Sean Flynn pitched one scoreless inning in relief while not giving up a hit and striking out one batter.
The Mount jumped out to the early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to the bat of Parker. After Kriss and Causa both singled, Parker plated them with a line drive three-run homerun down the left field line.
The Wildcats answered the three-run first inning by the Mountaineers with a 12-run inning of their own in the bottom of the first. Davidson scored their first five runs off of four singles before a three-run homerun from Walker Imwalle that brought home Justin Lebek and Alex Mardiney. The Wildcats plated four more runs off of a fielder's choice ground ball, a wild pitch, and a single. Davidson added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning from a two-run homerun by Max Bazin to make it a 14-3 game.
Parker tallied his fourth RBI of the game in the fifth inning with a single up the middle that brought Brendan Dabagian home to cross the plate. Mount St. Mary's added two more runs in the top of the sixth, and one more run in the top of the eighth inning. Randall Minogue hit his first homerun of the year down the left field line in the top of the sixth inning. The Wildcats scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Michael Collins (1-3) picked up the loss for the Mount and Josh Hudson (3-1) recorded the win for Davidson. The Mountaineers return home Tuesday, March 20 for a mid-week game against UMBC at 3:00 p.m.
