Q: Who can join The Mount Club?
A: All alumni, parents, friends, and fans are encouraged to join the Mount Club and make an impact. You do not need to be a former Mount student-athlete or alumnus to join.
Q: What is the difference between restricted gifts and unrestricted gifts?
A: An unrestricted gift is defined as any gift or donation that can be used towards the general athletic fund. These types of gifts or donations may be used to offset expenses and any purpose for the general good of Mount Athletics but must be approved by the Director of Athletics.
- Academic / Student Services
- Athletics Department Upgrades
- Scholarship Support
- Sports Medicine
- Strength & Conditioning
- Technology Enhancements
The designation of sport-specific, facility, or project-based funds are classified as restricted gifts. Donors may choose to give towards a specific program, multiple programs or a certain athletics facility or project upgrades.
Q: Why should I give to the Mount Club and how will my gift be used?
A: The Mount Club offers the unique opportunity to make a direct impact on the everyday lives of Mount student-athletes. Your gifts are used to help our athletics department recruit, travel, purchase equipment, and enhance facilities. By giving to the Mount Club you’re impacting the academic and athletic development of over 280 student-athletes on a daily basis.
Q: If I make a gift to an area of the university other than Athletics, will that apply to my Mount Club membership?
A: Unfortunately, no. The Mount Club is the official fundraising organization for Mount St. Mary's University Athletics, and membership in the Mount Club requires a contribution into any restricted or unrestricted Mount Athletic account. For a gift to count towards your membership it must be directed towards athletics.
Q: If I become a member of the Mount Club, will my gift go to general athletics, or can I direct my gift to a specific area?
A: Unrestricted Mount Club gifts allow the greatest flexibility as this support provides resources which benefit student-athletes from all sixteen varsity programs. However, you can also designate your gift in support of the athletic team of your choice.
Q: Is my gift tax-deductible?
A: Yes. All gifts to The Mount Club are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law. For deductibility, please consult your tax adviser.
Q: What else can I do to help the Mount Club and Mount St. Mary's University Athletics?
A: Your continued financial support and attendance at Mount St. Mary's sporting events are extremely important. Not only will you be supporting the athletics program, but you will also be able to see firsthand the product of your investment and the impact you are making on our student-athletes. You can also help by recruiting more Mount Club members, inviting friends and family to games and events, and staying up-to-date with all Mount Club fundraising initiatives.
