Grantham, Pa. (September 22, 2018) – The Mount St. Mary's women's cross country team took first place at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday, led by a first-place finish from junior Maddie Kole. The men's squad finished third at the invitational, with freshman Brandon Nichols registering a ninth-place showing for the team's top finish of the afternoon.
In the women's 6k race, the Mountaineers claimed three of the top-four spots, paced by Kole's leading time of 23:12.30. Erin Jaskot finished third with a time of 23:26.50, and Ashleigh Kocher took fourth in 24:09.60. Clarke Hooper was the Mount's other top-10 finisher on the day, posting a seventh-place finish with a time of 24:38.40.
On the men's side, Nichols secured ninth place in the 8k race with a time of 28:54.90. Freshmen Paul Fagnano (29:26.70), Andrew Jackson (29:31.60), and John Wang (29:48.70) also claimed top-20 finishes to help pace the Mount on the day.
The Mount women's team won the invite with 23 points, while Messiah (33 pts) took second, and Frostburg State (84) claimed third. On the men's side, Messiah was the winning team with 20 points, Frostburg State (54) posted a second-place showing, and the Mount (63) took third.
