Nicolas Fransham and Maddie Kole Pace Mount St. Mary's Cross Country at Season Opening Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals

Emmitsburg, Md. (August 31, 2018)--Nicolas Fransham and Maddie Kole paced the Mount St. Mary's men's and women's cross country teams at the season-opening Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals on campus this afternoon.  Fransham finished in third place overall for the men while Kole recorded a fifth-place mark in the women's race.

The meet was scored in a dual match format with George Washington taking home first place in the men's meet and Johns Hopkins winning the women's race.  On the men's side, George Washington was first with a 4-0 record, followed by UMBC (2-1-1), Mount St. Mary's (2-2), Johns Hopkins (1-2-1) and Franklin Pierce (0-4).  The Blue Jays won the women's race with a 5-0 record, followed by George Washington (4-1), Maryland (3-2), UMBC (2-3), Mount St. Mary's (1-4) and Franklin Pierce (0-5).

In the men's race, the Mount had four finishers in the top 20, led by Fransham's third-place finish in a time of 15:52.98.  Benjamin Finnigan was seventh overall (16:-3.64), Isaac Kole finished eighth (16:06.20) and Kevin Dorsey 19th (16:29.70).  Kole finished in fifth place in a time of 18:51.56 to lead the Mount women.  Ashleigh Kocher was 19th overall (19:59.77) and Clarke Hooper 30th (20:17.57).

Individually, Caelyn Reilly from  won the women's race with a time of 18:25.95.  George Washington's Andy Weber won the men's race with a time of 15:44.80.

The Mountaineers return to action at the Messiah Invitational on September 22.
