Mount Men's And Women's Tennis Edged By Webber International On Thursday

Babson Park, Fla. (March 7, 2019) - The Mount men's and women's tennis team were edged by Webber International on Thursday afternoon. The Mountaineer men were defeated 6-3 by the Warriors and the Mountaineer women were clipped 5-4 by Webber. Jean Armstrong and Evan Hine led the way for the Mount men in singles competition by picking up wins in the number four and number five flights. Mount St. Mary's duo of Parth Sharma and Christian Duran earned the other Mount point in doubles action. The Mount women swept all three flights of doubles action but only Taylor Cook won her singles flight. Cook now has five singles wins on the year so far. With the losses, the men's squad drops to 1-10 on the year and the women's squad falls to 0-10.

Men's Results

Webber International won four out of the six singles flights to secure the match victory. The Mount's Jean Armstrong defeated Jordi Serrano 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth flight while Evan Hine topped Christof Buehler 6-4, 6-4 in the fifth flight for the Mountaineers two points in singles competition. Alonso Garcia won his first set in the third flight to at least force a third-tie breaker set but Garcia was defeated in that set by Ivan Bondarenko.

Parth Sharma and Christian Duran gave Mount St. Mary's their only other point of the match after they clipped Matthew Alexander and Christof Buehler 9-8 in the number three flight of doubles action. The Warriors earned their fifth and sixth points of the match after they took the first and second flights.

Women's Results

Webber International grabbed a hold of the match after they won all of the flights of singles action except for the number three spot. The Mount's Taylor Cook topped Isabelle Niehoff 6-2, 6-0 in that third flight. Mia Pittman won her second set in the number four flight and Emma Blake took her first set in the fifth flight but fell in the third tie-breaker set.

The Mountaineers swept all three doubles flights but fell just short of the Warriors. Alexa Quintanilla and Hannah Davis topped Emily John and Paula John 9-7 in the first flight while Emma Blake and Megan Smith defeated Isabelle Niehoff and Svenja Koenig 8-1 in the number two flight. Taylor Cook and Mia Pittman took the third flight by a forfeit victory that completed the doubles sweep for Mount St. Mary's.

The Mount men's team returns to Maryland for a Northeast Conference matchup against Bryant (at Navy) on Sunday, March 17 and the Mount women's squad returns to action on Wednesday, March 20 when they welcome Hofstra for a match.
