Emmitsburg, Md. (November 3, 2018) – The Mount St. Mary's women's swimming & diving team topped Howard, 161-155, and Monmouth, 146-131, on Saturday in the team's first home meet of the season. The pair of victories pushed the Mount's record to 5-1 on the season.
Mary Lombardi led the way once again for the Mount with a pair of individual victories on the afternoon. The senior raced to first-place finishes in both the 400 free (4:41.08) and the 800 free (9:35.75) to pace the Mount.
Freshmen Jordan Friedman and Elizabeth Fahrney were vital to the Mount's success on Saturday as both rookies posted a win apiece. Friedman took the top spot in the 100 free (1:01.50), and Fahrney raced to first place in the 200 breast (2:47.50).
Maddie McGraw registered a pair of second-place showings at the meet. The senior touched the wall in 1:06.94 in the 100 back, as she narrowly missed out on breaking her own program record in the event (1:06.75). McGraw also took second place in the 200 back with a time of 2:28.73.
Other second-place finishers in individual swimming events on the afternoon included Friedman in the 200 IM (2:33.61), Maggie deTar in the 200 free (2:12.77), and Valeria Villagran in the 100 fly (1:08.10).
The Mount's top relay squads earned second-place showings in both relays at the meet. The squad of McGraw, Lauren Gullickson, Villagran and Friedman finished the 400 medley in 4:33.81, and the team of McGraw, Lombardi, Villagran, and Friedman clocked in at 4:09.32 in the 400 free relay to close things out.
The Mountaineers are back in action at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on November 16-18.
