Emmitsburg, Md. (October 8, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's swimming and diving team won 10 of 13 events en route to victories over VMI (153-43) and Manhattan (136-78) in the season-opening meet Saturday at the Mount St. Mary's Swimming Pool. Senior Sarah Bonson led the way for the Mount with a pair of victories in the 200m IM (2:31.33) and 100 fly (1:07.60).
The Mount dominated the freestyle at the meet, claiming first-place showings in four of five individual free events. Amanda Moore won the 100m free (59.80), Maggie deTar took first in the 200m free (2:11.39), Mary Lombardi claimed first in the 400m (4:41.82) and Bridget Vaughan won the 800m (9:44.79).
Morgan Runk registered the other first-place showing in the swimming portion with gold in the 100m back as the senior clocked in at 1:10.28.
Mount divers took the top three spots in the 1-meter dive, led by Peyton Fuller's first-place score of 150.80. Celia Thomas placed second with a score of 149.50 and Laci Vickery posted a score of 140.10 to take third.
The Mount also won both relay events, as Runk, Lauren Gullickson, Moore and deTar opened the meet with a victory in the 200m medley relay (2:04.49), and Moore, Juliette Lacoste, Hailey Vogt and Bridget Vaughan closed out the meet with a first-place showing in the 200m free relay (1:55.78)
