New Britain, Conn. (November 2, 2018)—The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team fell to Saint Francis U, 4-0, in the Northeast Conference Tournament semifinals at Central Connecticut on Friday afternoon. The Mount was making its first NEC Tournament appearance since 1997. The Mount concludes the season with a 5-9-3 record.
The Red Flash (8-8-3) opened the scoring 14:53 into the game when Emilee Barnett headed in a long cross from Erica Carpenter for a 1-0 advantage. Saint Francis U strung together a nice string of passes that led to a goal by Corinne Renninger. Alyssa McGhee had the ball near the top of the box, and pushed a pass to Renninger, who beat Mount goalkeeper Maggie Barron to the lower right to make it a 2-0 game. The Red Flash went to the locker room with the 2-0 advantage. Saint Francis held 10-0 advantage in shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.
Saint Francis added to the lead with a pair of goals early in the second half. Sara Suler and Dakota Graham were the goal scorers, giving the Red Flash a commanding 4-0 advantage. The Red Flash held a 18-to-5 advantage in shots in the game, and a 4-to-3 edge in corners. Barron made six saves for the Mountaineers while Julia Hernan made three saves for Saint Francis U.
Notes: This was the Mount's first NEC Tournament appearance since 1997…The Mountaineers are now 0-4 all-time in NEC Tournament play…The Mount finished third in the NEC standings after being picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll…Saint Francis will play host Central Connecticut in the championship game on Sunday.
