Washington, D.C. (August 25, 2017) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to come back and defeat Howard by a 4-1 final on Friday night at the HU Soccer Complex. With the victory the Mount improved to 2-1 on the season.
Whitney White put Howard on top just under eight minutes into play on a header off a cross from Priscilla Ayala.
The Mount answered back later in the first as Jenna West beat goalie Gabrielle Emilien with a high shot to even the contest at 1-1. Freshman Amanda Britain picked up the first point of her career with an assist on the play.
Early in the second half, Jaylyn Chandler gave the Mountaineers their first lead of the tilt on her first goal of the season off a feed from West.
Rookie Sarah Kajdasz found the back of the net later in the second period for her first collegiate goal, putting the Mount up by a 3-1 margin.
West added another insurance goal in the 80th minute for her second goal of the contest to ice the 4-1 victory for the Mount. West finished with a career-high five points (2g, 1a) in the game. Fresman Jasmine McCree was credited with an assist on the play for the first of her career.
Maggie Barron earned the win in net to move to 2-0 on the year, while Emilien took the loss for Howard.
The Mount outshot Howard by a 24-10 margin, tallying 11 shots in the first half and 13 in the second.
Mount St. Mary's continues its road swing at Hampton on Sunday, August 27 at 2 p.m.
