Mount Women's Rugby Grabs Third And Fifth Place At The University Of Pennsylvania's 7's Tournament

Philadelphia, Pa. (April 6, 2019) - The Mount St. Mary's women's rugby team recorded third and fifth place at the University of Pennsylvania's 7's Tournament in Philadelphia on Saturday. The Elites (Mount team 1) won the third/fourth place matchup 26-5 over the Navy 2 team while the Selects (Mount team 2) clipped the University of Pennsylvania 17-15 in the fifth/sixth game. 

Ubaida Ahmed led the Mount Elites squad on the day with six tries scored and two conversion kicks that combined for 36 points. Maya Grassi added six conversion kicks for the Elites on the day. Ahmed, Julie Crochet, and Hanna Rojas-Rhodes each crossed the ball over the touch line in the third place match while Grassi and Molly Stocker combined for three conversion kicks.

For the Mount Selects, Jenna Lewaren led the team with two tries scored on the day. In the fifth place match, Lewaren, and Jordan Butcher pushed the ball a crossed the touch line while Nataly Cisneros picked up the game winning conversion kick.

The Mountaineers women's rugby squad heads to Sacred Heart for the Pioneers Cup 7's Tournament on Saturday, April 13.
