Mount St. Mary's Women's Rugby Falls To Norwich On Saturday Morning

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 28, 2017) -- The Mount St. Mary's women's rugby team fell to Norwich 79-5 on Saturday morning from Emmitsburg. Junior, Marissa Clark scored her first try of the season for the Mount. Mount St. Mary's dropped to 0-6 on the season and Norwich added a win to go to 5-2.

The Cadets took advantage of an offside call just two minutes into the match and charged down the pitch to score the first try of the game from Sheila Decker. Decker also converted the kick after to put Norwich ahead 7-0 early into the match. The Cadets recorded four more tries and two conversion kicks before Caitlin Heale made a drop kick out of a scrum near the touch line. Norwich added two more tries and two more conversion kicks before ending the first half up 48-0. Decker accounted for 25 of the Cadets first half points. 

The number sixth ranked team in the NIRA posted 19 unanswered points to begin the second half before the Mountaineers scored a try from Clark out of a scrum to the left of the touch line midway through the half. Norwich touched the ball down across the touch line two more times and converted one more kick after to coast to the 79-5 victory. Decker, the eight man junior, totaled 37 of the Cadets 79 points on the day.

The NIRA Quarterfinals will begin on Saturday, November 11.
