Mount St. Mary's Women's Rugby begins its inaugural season as a varsity program with a matchup at Notre Dame of Ohio for the season opener this Saturday, September 2.
The Mountaineers are led by first-year Head Coach Farrah Douglas and Assistant Coach Maggie Myles. Douglas brings over 12 years of coaching experience to the Mount, with involvement at the national, collegiate and high school levels. She's been the head coach of the USA Girl's High School All-American (USA U-18) Team for the past two seasons, and the assistant coach with the USA Women's National Team since 2012. Douglas was also at the helm of the Gonzaga College High School team in Washington, D.C., and served as technical director and skill coach at The Rugby Academy in Potomac, Md. from 2010-15. Myles, a recent graduate from Quinnipiac University where she played on the women's rugby team all four years. As a senior last year, she saw action in all 12 matches while tallying six tries and eight asssits during the season. She added 33 tackles on the year which helped her earn NIRA All-Amercian honors.
The Mount's roster for the first season consists of three freshmen, seven sophomores, five juniors, seven seniors and two grad students. Click here to learn more about the 2017-18 Mountaineers.
SCOUTING NOTRE DAME COLLEGE
The Falcons were picked sixth in the NIRA preseason poll after fnishing last season with a 8-3 record. Notre Dame College defeated Virginia Tech 56-5 in the DI Elite Nationals, but fell to Penn State University. Two weeks later, the Falcons took down Stanford University 29-17 in the Spring Championships semi-final match. NDC became the National runner-up following their loss to the University of California Davis to wrap up the year.
