Emmitsburg, Md. (March 9, 2018) – Lehigh's Kierstyn Voiro scored in the third overtime period to lift the Mountain Hawks to a 9-8 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Friday at Waldron Family Stadium.
Voiro was able to weave her way into the arc early on in triple overtime, and fired one past Jillian Petito for the unassisted tally that lifted Lehigh to the win. With the victory, the Mountain Hawks improved to 4-3 on the year while the Mount dropped to 3-3.
Mount St. Mary's took a 5-3 advantage into the halftime break behind three points on a pair of goals and one assist from Carly Miller. Marley Heller chipped in with a goal and one helper in the opening half.
The Mountaineers extended their lead to 7-3 with a pair of quick goals from Nicole Voci and Heller in the opening three minutes of the second half before the Lehigh defense tightened up.
Lehigh netted three straight while holding Mount St. Mary's scoreless over the ensuing 10 minutes, as the Mountain Hawks closed the gap to 7-6.
Miller ended the Mount's scoreless drought with her third tally of the game at the 16:55 mark, pushing the Mountaineers' lead back to 8-6.
Sondra Dickey scored the game's next two goals, including the tying score with 3:26 remaining to knot the game at 8-8. The Mount wasn't able to get on the board in the final three-plus minutes, as the game headed to overtime.
After a pair of scoreless overtime periods, Voiro netted the game-winner just a minute and a half into the third extra frame to send Lehigh off with the victory.
Miller led the Mountaineers in the contest with four points (3g, 1a), and Heller added three (2g, 1a). Petito posted a season-high 14 saves between the pipes.
For Lehigh, Dickey paced the team with three goals, while Voiro (2g) and Haley Wentzel (1g, 1a) each added two points. Samantha Sagi earned the win in goal with a six-save performance.
The Mount returns to action on Monday (March 12) for a tilt at home against Fresno State at 3 p.m.
