Women’s Lacrosse Falls to UC Davis, 8-5

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 30, 2017) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's lacrosse team dropped an 8-5 decision to UC Davis on Thursday at Waldron Family Stadium.

Melissa Kellan led the way for the Aggies with three of the team's eight goals, while Amanda Outcalt and Taylor Cuenin added two tallies apiece.

Grace Richards and Lauren Ali split time between the pipes for UC Davis, with Richards picking up the win in a seven-save effort.

Sammie Knapp and Taylor Carhart paced the Mountaineers with two goals each in the contest, and Jannel Daufenbach registered the other.

Jillian Petito took the loss in goal for the Mount despite a nine-save performance.

Taylor Carhart netted the first goal of the tilt on a free-position attempt, but UC Davis responded with a pair of scores from Outcalt to take a 2-1 advantage at the 20:45 mark.

Daufenbach tied the contest at 2-all midway through the first half on an unassisted tally.

The Aggies outscored the Mount by a 2-1 margin in the final 11-plus minutes of the frame to take a 4-3 advantage into the halftime break.

The Aggies pulled away in the second, scoring the first four goals of the stanza. Kellan registered a natural hat trick for the first three tallies of the stretch, before Cuenin capped it off to extend the UCD lead to 8-3 with 16:01 remaining.

Knapp scored at the 12:56 mark and with 4:58 remaining in the contest to cut the Mountaineer deficit to 8-5, but that was as close as they would get, eventually falling by the three-goal margin.

The Mount is back in action for a rescheduled game at Binghamton this Saturday (April 1) at 3 p.m.
