Moon Township, Pa. (May 1, 2016) – Molly Morris and Taylor Carhart combined for seven points, but Mount St. Mary's University women's lacrosse was edged by Robert Morris, 8-6, in the final game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon.
Morris tallied a goal and three assists, and Taylor Carhart added a pair of goals and one assist as the duo led the Mountaineer attack on the day. Kelly Maloney, Sammie Knapp and Emily Dees registered the other Mount goals in the contest. The tally for Dees was the first of her career. Senior Steph Rurkowski stopped 13 shots in the cage for the Mountaineers, notching her seventh double-digit save performance of the season.
Dana Davis and Corey Karwacki scored seven of the Colonials' eight goals, with Davis notching a game-high four. Sarah Arnold made three saves in the contest to collect the victory in goal
Davis scored the opening three goals of the contest and added one more late in the first half to power the Colonials to a 5-1 advantage heading into the halftime break.
The Mountaineers came out of the break strong, scoring four straight to pull within one, 6-5. Taylor Carhart notched the first two tallies during the stretch, before Maloney and Dees registered a goal apiece in a span of 10 seconds to cap off the run.
Corey Karwacki responded for Robert Morris with consecutive goals to push the Colonial lead to 8-5, but Knapp answered with her first of the game to trim the deficit back to 8-6 with 11:18 remaining.
The Colonial defense was able to keep the Mountaineers off the board in the final 11-plus minutes to secure the 8-6 victory as they picked up their ninth win of the season.
