Mount Women’s Lacrosse Dropped by Columbia

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 30, 2014) – The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team was handed an 11-0 defeat by visiting Columbia on a cold and rainy day at Waldron Family Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the final non-conference test for the Mountaineers.

Sophomore Steph Rurkowski made eight saves between the pipes for the Mountaineers (1-8), which were outshot by a 27-8 margin by Columbia (3-5) on the day.

Six different players scored for Columbia, including Jessie Ambrose, who led the offense with three goals and three assists. Paige Cuscovitch, Ashley Rinere and Kaitlin Brophy also netted two goals apiece for the Lions.

Columbia scored three times in the opening 15 minutes and tacked on five more in the final 15 minutes of the opening half for an 8-0 halftime lead. In the final 30 minutes, the Lions tallied three goals, while goalkeeper Colleen Packer stopped seven shots on the day to keep the Mount off the board.

For the Mount, Lindsay Diaz scooped up five ground balls, and Lily O'Beirne and Megan Gluck both chipped in with four.

The Mount begins Northeast Conference play on Friday, April 4, versus Central Connecticut State at 4 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium.
