Villanova, Pa. (March 9, 2013)—The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-7 loss on the road at Villanova. Erin Seipp scored two goals for the Mountaineers to lead the offense.
Eight different players scored goals for Villanova (2-3), including three apiece from Maria Bowman and Ali Judge. Jessica Mucci assisted on six of the Wildcats' 16 goals.
Seipp's free position goal 1:05 into the contest gave the Mount (1-5) a 1-0 edge. Three goals in less than a three-minute span by the Wildcats put the Mountaineers in a 3-1 hole. Allie Fife's third goal of the season with 14:15 to go in the first half ended the run and put the score at 3-2 in favor of Villanova.
Four-consecutive Villanova strikes gave the Mount a 7-2 deficit. Lindsay Diaz' team-leading 10th goal got the Mount back on the board at 7-3, with just over nine minutes left in the half.
Villanova responded with Bowman's third goal of the day followed by two from Judge for a 10-3 halftime lead.
The Wildcats continued to attack in the second half with the first six goals to take a 16-3 edge. Over the final 11 minutes of action, Seipp and Kaitlyn Larrimore found the back of the net on unassisted goals, and Mary MacAdam and Bridget McGann notched free position goals.
Both teams used two goalkeepers with Amanda Hirschfeld making four saves for the win for Villanova and Sarah Jane Leder stopping three shots in the first half for the Mount.
The Wildcats outshot the Mount, 28-18, and held the edge in draw controls, 18-6.
The Mountaineers will return to Waldron Family Stadium on campus for a game against George Washington on Wednesday, March 13th, at 4:00 p.m.
