Glen Allen, Virginia (November 2, 2018) - The Mount St. Mary's women's bowling team went 4-0 during the opening day of the Virginia Union Invite on Friday afternoon. After a first round bye, the Mountaineers registered victories over Bowie State, Fayetteville State, Coppin State, and Norfolk State, who is currently receiving top-25 votes.
With the 4-0 performance, the Mount now moves to 21-2 on the year. Tamera Stanton led the way for Mount St. Mary's with an 18.22 baker frame average. The Mount is currently in sixth place out of 19 teams after the first day of the tournament.

First Round Bye
The Mountaineers rolled an 845 during a first round bye warm up match. The match was highlighted by a 187 game one and a 197 game five.

Bowie State: 716
The Mount was able to comfortably roll by Bowie State, 892-716 thanks to a 192 game four and a 186 game five to close the match.

Fayetteville State: 808
Mount St. Mary's squeaked by Fayetteville State 831-808 thanks to a 212 game 3.

Coppin State: 826
Thanks to a 248 game 5 that erased a 32-pin deficit for a big come-from-behind victory to remain undefeated, the Mountaineers edged Coppin State 869-826.
Mount St. Mary's: 892
Norfolk State: 742
The Mount concluded day one undefeated with a 892-742 win over Norfollk State to close out action on the first day. Mount St. Mary's topped Norfolk State in all five games of the match to control the victory.
"Anyone on the team will tell you today was not our best day," said head coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "However, we were able to grind out a 4-0 performance and that is the most important thing. We will enter tomorrow with a slightly different game plan in terms of lane play and try to execute our shots better. We are still within striking distance of a top four spot in qualifying to give us a chance at the championship Sunday."
The tournament will continue tomorrow, November 3 with five traditional matches against Felician, Virginia State, Howard, Virginia Union, and Morgan State in that order. Competition starts at 9:45 AM and will be streamed live from the team's Facebook page.
