Waynesboro, Pa. (October 20, 2018) – On the opening day of its first home tournament in program history, the Mount St. Mary's women's bowling team went a perfect 5-0 to improve to 14-1 on the year, as the Mountaineers continued their impressive start to their inaugural season. The Mount defeated Wilmington, Medaille, Robert Wesleyan, New Jersey City, and 24th-ranked Kutztown on Saturday, and currently sits in third place in the standings with a 182.2 team average.
Rebecca Dodson and Ashley Santos led the way for the Mountaineers during the opening day of the Mount shootout. Dodson averaged a 202.60, and Santos registered a 202, as the duo currently hold the third and fourth-highest scores, respectively, in the individual standings.
"Any time we can go 5-0 and keep ourselves in the hunt for first place, it is a good day. Baker tends to be our stronger format, so we will try our best to climb the leaderboard prior to bracket play," said Head Coach Kenneth DeGraaf.
Mount St. Mary's: 881
The Mount was able to edge out Wilmington University, 881-848, to open competition on Saturday. Dodson shot a 237 in her opening game to lead the charge, which marked her highest score of the season to this point.
Mount St. Mary's: 1,024
The Mount continued to roll with a high-scoring 1024-908 victory over Medaille in game two, as three Mountaineers shot 200 or better in the match. Dodson led the Mount with a 233, Santos registered a 232, and Tamera Stanton posted a 201. The 1,024 was the second-highest team score of the day, and just one of two that surpassed the 1,000 mark.
Mount St. Mary's: 882
Robert Wesleyan: 868
Game three of the Mount Shootout saw the Mountaineers claim their second win of the season over Robert Wesleyan. Santos shot a team-best 201 in the match, and Dodson chipped in with a 188 to help the Mount to victory.
Mount St. Mary's: 880
New Jersey City: 818
The Mountaineers made it four straight wins with an 880-818 win over New Jersey City. Santos collected her best score of the day with a 236, while Dodson added a 188 and Danielle Milo shot a 180 to help pace the Mount.
Mount St. Mary's: 889
#24 Kutztown: 871
The Mountaineers completed their perfect day with an 889-871 win over No. 24 Kutztown, which was the Mount's second win over the Bears this season. With the victory, the Mount improved to 4-0 against nationally-ranked teams on the year. Erin Burkart stepped up for the Mountaineers with a team-high 201 in the match.
The Mountaineers close out the final day of the Mount Shootout tomorrow (October 21), with competition starting just before 9 a.m. from Sunshine Lanes.
