Fairfield, Conn. (Feb. 9, 2019)--Mount St. Mary's fell to Sacred Heart, 76-41, on Saturday afternoon at the William H. Pitt Center. Freshman Michaela Harrison led the Mountaineers with 14 points.
The Pioneers (11-10, 7-3 NEC ) raced out to a 20-4 lead and never looked back en route to the victory. Katherine Haines, who led Sacred Heart with 19 points, scored the first five points of the game. The Mount's Juliette Lawless scored to make it 5-2, but the Pioneers continued to surge, hitting three three-pointers to cap a 9-0 run for the 20-4 advantage. Sacred Heart led 24-6 at the end of the opening quarter. The Mount (10-11, 4-6 NEC) pulled within 33-15 midway through the second quarter on a Jatarrikah Settle jumper, but the Pioneers closed the half on an 8-0 run for a 41-15 lead at the break.
Harrison finished 4-for-8 from three-point range while compiling her team-high 14 points. Settled added 11 points and four assists while Rebecca Lee had eight points and six rebounds. Haines led five Pioneer players in double figures with 19 points. Adrianne Hagood added 16, Olivia Dabney and Candice Leatherwood 12 each, and Erin Strock 10 in the victory.
Sacred Heart shot 13-of-26 (.500) from three-point range in the win while shooting 47.2 percent overall from the field. The Mount converted just 28.6 percent of its shots, and was 4-for-18 (.222) from beyond the three-point arc.
The Mountaineers look to get back in the win column with a 7:00 p.m. matchup at LIU Brooklyn on Monday, February 11.
