May 23, 2018—Mount St. Mary's senior D.J. Workcuff will be competing at the NCAA East Preliminary hosted at the University of South Florida Track & Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla., May 24-26. Workcuff will be competing in the long jump on Thursday, May 24, at 3:30 p.m. The top 12 competitors at the East Preliminary advance to the NCAA Finals.
Workcuff, who was named the Most Valuable Performer at this year's Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, is ranked 31st in the field of 48 competitors in the long jump. Workcuff won the long jump at the NEC Championships with his top mark of the season at 7.57m (24' 10"). That missed the NEC record by eight centimeters, and moves Workcuff into second place on the Mount's all-time list in the event.
At the NEC Championships, Workcuff sealed the MVP honor by anchoring the Mount's 4x400m relay team to a second-place finish to propel the Mount to first place in the team standings. He totaled 21.5 points and had three IC4A Championship qualifying marks at the NEC Championships to earn the MVP award. In addition to his winning jump in the long jump, he scored in both the 100m and 200m dash finals while also anchoring the 4x400m relay team and the Mount's gold-medal winning 4x100m relay squad.
