Mount Track Has Successful Opening Day at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (March 16, 2018)—The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened the 2018 season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina on Friday.

For the men, Justin Kimble advanced to finals in the 100m dash with a time of 10.55 seconds, moving him into fourth on the Mount's all-time list.  Brenden Chavis finished in fourth place in the weight throw with a mark of 52.90m (173' 7") with D.J. Workcuff finishing third in the long jump with a leap of 7.23m (23' 8.75").

Christopher Gabor was seventh in the javelin (53.53m, 175' 7.75") with Chris Evans placing 10th in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:57.31.

For the women's team, Rachel Finn cleared 3.80m (12' 5.5") to finish in third place in the pole vault.  Her vault is tied for the second-best mark in Mount history with Mandy Jenkins.  Elissa Ingram holds the school record at 3.81m (12' 6").  Moriah Fitzgerald finished in ninth place with a mark of 3.50m (11' 5.75").

Natalia Hinton finished in second place in the long jump with a mark of 5.84m (19' 2") while Kayla Barnes advanced to the finals in the 100m dash with a time of 11.89 seconds, which moves her into a tie for the third on the Mount's all-time list.

Erin Sample finished in seventh place in the weight throw with a toss of 46.75m (153' 4.75") while Najae Nickerson was ninth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.73 seconds.

On Thursday night, Mitchel Wileczek opened the outdoor season for the Mountaineers by finishing in eighth place in the 10,000m run with a personal best time of 32:57.45.
