The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams open the 2017-18 season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on March 15-17.  The meet will be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

THE COMPETITION:  Teams expected to compete at the meet include Division I schools Albany, American, Coastal Carolina, Colgate, Charleston, Hampton, Manhattan, Maryland Eastern Shore, UMass Lowell, the Mount, North Dakota, Tennessee State and UNC Wilmington.

INDOOR RECAP:  The Mount men's team finished in third place while the women placed fourth at the 2018 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.  The Mount had five gold medal winners at the meet, including Justin Kimble (60m dash), Kayla Barnes (60m dash), Brenden Chavis (Weight Throw), D.J. Workcuff (Long Jump) and the women's 4x400m relay team.    In addition, Barnes was named the Women's Most Outstanding Rookie Performer while Kimble was named the Men's NEC Most Outstanding Track Performer (Sprints).  Barnes becomes just the second Mountaineer to win NEC Rookie of the Year honors on the women's side, joining Ashley DeCruise in 2008.

INDOOR ALL-EAST HONORS:   The Mountaineers had seven athletes earn All-East honors at this year's ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships.  Justin Kimble (200m), D.J. Workcuff (Heptathlon), Rachel Finn (Pole Vault) and the women's 4x400m relay team of Mariah McLane, Chardane Logan, Chalys Caruth and Clarke Hooper each earned All-East honors at the meet.

LAST TIME AT THE ALAN CONNIE SHAMROCK INVITATIONAL:  The Mount last competed at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in 2016.  Kelly Yanucil finished in second place in the javelin, Christopher Gabor second in the decathlon, and Chase Boyle sixth in the hammer throw to lead the Mount at the meet.
